new in Des MoinesSummer is a great time to be in Des Moines. The days are long and the sun is warm. We are excited to see so many new businesses opening. Here are some we’re most excited about.

5 New Things in Des Moines

Storyhouse Bookpub | 505 East Grand Ave Suite 102

What started as a temporary bookstore in Abigail Paxton’s garage is now a brick-and-mortar bookstore in the East Village next to Raygun. The light and bright shop has a curated collection of books for all ages. Check the website for summer hours.

H&M at Jordan Creek Mall

The long-awaited Swedish clothing store opened June 10 and fashionistas couldn’t be happier! The two-story store features affordable men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing.

Dough CrazyLocust Street

If you love sneaking bites of raw cookie dough, this one’s for you. Enjoy edible cookie dough made with heat-treated flour and pastuerized egg. The food truck is opening a storefront in downtown Des Moines next to Jimmy Johns on Locust Ave. Flavors include frosted circus, coconut lime white chocolate, and peanut butter overload.

Ocha Bubble Tea and Dessert Cafe | 7216 University Avenue Windsor Heights

Next time you need a caffeine boost, get bubble tea (black tea, milk, ice, and chewy tapioca pearls) served with a fat straw. Or try something new like Korean-style shaved ice. They also serve fruit tea, milk tea, smoothies, and slush.

Zora Rooftop Bar | 2120 Ingersoll Avenue

This swanky rooftop bar with views of downtown is set to open later this summer. Expect traditional appetizers and shared plates with a twist like Italian eggrolls and Walleye fingers as well as burgers, flatbread pizzas, and craft cocktails. Definitely worth checking out for a date night or girls night out.
