Hello! My name is Mary Salazar and I am beyond excited to be a part of this amazing blog with all the other wonderful moms. Des Moines Moms Blog was an essential resource to me when my family relocated to the area and I am looking forward to interacting even more in the community.
I was born and raised in Clinton, in Eastern Iowa. I attended the University of Iowa where I met my husband; we worked together in the Old Capitol Mall, back when it was a mall.
Always up for an adventure, we moved to Las Vegas 10 days after we got married. After a few years of living in the desert we decided to head a bit closer to home, relocating to Kansas City, Missouri. It was there that our daughter, Lily, was born in 2009. Having a baby when our closest family was six hours away was more challenging than we could have imagined. We had good friends who lived in Des Moines and after a few visits we fell in love with all the area had to offer. So, we loaded up and moved again, hopefully for the last time, in 2011.
After spending the first part of my career as a middle and high school English teacher, I am currently the Director of Teaching and Learning for a school district here in the metro. My husband works in the insurance industry. My family lives in Urbandale and we are so lucky that we can take full advantage of all the area has to offer. I look forward to sharing about my life and experiences with everyone!
