Melanie, tell us a little bit about yourself and why you started Food 4 Thought
My holistic health and life journey started approximately 11 years ago when I had a “mini” health crisis. I started researching alternative remedies and techniques to heal causes rather than just addressing my symptom(s). When I became pregnant with my daughter almost 7 years ago, I started thinking of nutrition in a different manner and wanted to build her palate with good foods and flavors since she would never know the difference between a French fry or a carrot or broccoli unless I introduced those foods. From there my passion, interest, and research in holistic health and nutrition continued to grow; I started juicing and incorporating more whole foods into our meals. After I had my son, 3 years ago, I decided to start talking to groups about the power of fruits, vegetables, and Juice Plus+ Whole Food Nutrition and then went onto study at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (the world’s largest nutrition school) where I studied over 100 different dietary theories and enhanced my overall knowledge and experience that health is a result of the interconnection between our mind, body, and soul; balance in all areas of our life are critical to ensure health and well being.
Personalized Health Coaching
I had the opportunity to sit down with the owner and founder of Food 4 Thought, Melanie Schmidt to go over my health history, eating habits and physical and emotional health. Melanie took notes during our session and gave me suggestions on things I can improve on, things I’m doing right and shared some healthy tips with me. Less than 24 hours after we met, Melanie had emailed me a detailed plan tailored just to my needs and wants. I enjoyed my time with Melanie and learned some valuable lessons. One of the take-aways I got from Melanie was to start a food journal. I find myself grabbing a little of the kids snack or cutting a little piece of brownie from a pan mindlessly. These little bites really add up and Melanie suggested a food journal to keep myself accountable.
