Winter Games Des MoinesThe Winter Games at Brenton Skating Plaza in Downtown Des Moines is an exciting celebration of sports and outdoor recreation on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10. It is a perfect opportunity for kids and families to spend time outside and cheer on United State of America at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The Winter Games event is produced by the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

The Winter Games is a new free kid-friendly event in downtown Des Moines.

Come to the event on Friday, Feb. 9 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 10 from Noon – 5 p.m. It is FREE to enjoy!

Regular ice skating admission and skate rental fees apply at Brenton Skating Plaza.

On Friday Feb. 9, families can enjoy an Opening Ceremonies Watch Party, a spectacular fireworks show, a winter sports playground, demonstrations, contests, food trucks, hot drinks, and cool fun. The Winter Games event is an opportunity to support the United State of America in our own backyard in the Historic East Village!

Other activities include: 

  • a demonstration from the Des Moines Curling Club
  • a professional ice carver
  • a demonstration by the Des Moines Figure Skating Club
  • a game of Broomball

The Winter Games offers kids and families the chance to cheer on the United State of America from the heart of Downtown Des Moines. Come check out a variety of activities over two days, including live music, a Glow Skate to fireworks, and food trucks. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
