The Social Media Coordinator is a contract position that will manage, create, and schedule social media content on all of our channels.


  • Schedule and write Facebook posts, sharing high-quality organic content as well as business and sponsored posts. Typically 3-4 posts/day; 7 days a week
    • Schedule “archive” blog posts to FB; 2 per week 
    • Participate in weekly Sister-Site Share on Facebook, sharing our content and scheduling Sister Site content to our page
  • Create interactive polls and post questions via Facebook to engage readers 
  • Assist with Facebook giveaways, helping to schedule, write giveaway verbiage, manage comments, links, liking comments
  • Promote Des Moines Mom events via Facebook and Instagram
  • Interact with local businesses on FB, IG and Twitter as DMM 
  • Interacts and responds to all fan engagement, per DMM policy
  • Assist in creating original DMM graphics specific for social media posts (holidays, quotes,
    announcements, etc.)
  • Schedule posts for sponsors, including their events, sales, campaigns and sponsored posts
  • Schedule and write Instagram posts, tagging businesses, contributors and other sister sites as relevant. Typically 2 posts/day; 7 days a week
  • Post to IG stories regularly, including a Friday roundup of top posts of the week
  • Maintain links on Instagram landing page on website
  • Schedule and manage contributors for “Takeover Tuesday” on IG 
  • Facilitate sponsored IG takeovers
  • Proactively share content via tags on IG, Twitter and Facebook (i.e. ensuring brands are aware of relevant content). 
  • Monitor social media comments. Redirect as needed. Forward business inquiries to Co-Owners
  • Brainstorm new ideas for Des Moines Mom’s presence on Instagram and Facebook, particularly as it relates to ways to engage brands 
  • Participate in and attend CMC social media webinars 
  • Respond to emails in a timely manner (within 48 hours) and represent Des Moines Mom in a positive and professional manner at all times 
  • Stay current on social media trends through research; adjust our campaigns accordingly
  • Post trending or relevant current events
  • Follow the 80/20 rule. 80% about DMM, 20% sharing and highlighting other businesses, CMC sister-sites
  • Attend all DMM events possible, assisting with posting on social media


  • Prior professional social media experience preferred
  • Experience creating graphics in Canva
  • Impeccable attention to detail  
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (written and verbal) 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on commitments 


  • Up to 20 hours/month, paid on the 15th of the month. 
  • Starting wage $13-$15/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Bonus opportunities as social media audiences grow ($100 per 1,000 followers)

Assess/Review: Quarterly

Time Commitment: 20 hours/month
