It’s no secret this year has been hard. Probably the most difficult year some of us have ever experienced. Now more than ever, moms need little ways to treat yourself because honestly, for me, those little treats are what keep me going.
8 Easy Ways to Treat Yourself
Bath Bombs
With baths I feel like you either love them or hate them. I love them and I love bath bombs as a way to relax. I love Lush bath bombs, but there are also a lot of small businesses that make them too. One of my favorites is Pinleand Soap Kitchen. Some companies also have shower steamers that are like a bath bomb for the shower.
At Home Iced Coffee
Another way I treat myself (and save money) is making my own iced coffee/lattes at home. I am the type of person who orders an iced coffee even when it gets cold, and one of my favorite helpers for this is the HyperChiller. You brew coffee into it and it chills it in minutes. No watering your coffee down or making it ahead of time.
Aromatherapy
This sounds fancy, but for me, it is as simple as turning on my wax warmer so the house smells nice. For you, it may be a candle or your oil diffuser. There are specific scents that are known to destress, but I just like what smells good. Everyone has different scent preferences, but I really enjoy supporting Dirt Road Candle Co. She is a local Iowa maker and she has wax melts and candles that smell amazing.
Do Your Make-Up
This may seem silly to some, but doing my makeup puts me in a better mood. Even if it’s just a couple things, taking that time to get myself ready is therapeutic to me. If you’re home, now more than ever is a great time to play with makeup and looks you may not have tried because (unless you’re in virtual meetings) few people will see! Try that smokey eye look or bold red lip you have always wanted to!
Try a New Hair Style
On the same wavelength as makeup, take time to try a new hairstyle. YouTube has TONS of hair tutorials. Learn how to do an updo if you have long hair. Learn how to curl your hair. Try a fancy ponytail. There are so many ideas out there.
Drive Through
Treat yourself to drive through ice cream. Or soda. Drive through donuts. I have been taking advantage of the drive-throughs more than ever these days. If my kids are getting restless, sometimes we drive through McDonald’s and snag something small. The couple bucks to buy the sodas/ice cream cones/whatever are sanity savers some days!
Try a New DIY
Maybe it is a new recipe. Or a new craft. Maybe you want to rearrange a photo wall or a shelf in your home. Take time to try something new. That sense of accomplishment can be a treat!
Give Yourself Permission to Do Nothing
Sometimes, things on this list may seem like too much. Give yourself permission to do nothing. Tell yourself that today, binge-watching a show or scrolling is okay. If you’re a normal go-getter, it may be a treat to just slow down.
I would love to hear some of your favorite ways to treat yourself these days!
