The Mom Versus The Sink

Mom and girls flexing muscles. The mom versus the sink. Des Moines MomThere comes a time in life when you simply have to roll up your sleeves, take a deep breath, and take apart your sink.

Yes, your literal sink. Although, you can also refer to the sink as your life in general.

The other day I noticed the bathroom sinks were draining slowly. They were clogged. So, I decided to get out the trusty baking soda and vinegar. Unfortunately, this did not get the clog out and for whatever reason, the sink was draining even more slowly.

Great, just great.

I decided I wasn’t going to let this sink beat me. And, if you know me, I am one of the most annoying, persistent people you will meet. I literally annoy myself sometimes. I believe my husband has become numb to my quirkiness.

So I looked up my problem on YouTube. Sure enough, there was a tutorial on how to fix my exact problem. However, I would have to take apart my sink. I contemplated whether or not to attempt doing this as I generally am NOT good at putting things together. But, I let my persistence win and went forward.

And you know what? I did it. I took apart THREE sinks and put THREE sinks back together. AND I successfully unclogged all THREE!

You may be wondering, why am I telling you this story? I am telling you this story because I feel like so often, we count ourselves out. We don’t give ourselves enough credit.

You literally can still learn how to do whatever it is you wish you knew how to do. It is never ever ever ever too late to start, or try, or relearn.

While you are on your quest to learn something new, whether it be as small as trying a new recipe or as big as going back to school, remember who is watching you.

Your kids. They’re watching you figure out life. They’re learning what to do when they don’t know the answer.

Believe me, I made sure to showcase my triumph over the sink for my kids. One, because I was hella proud of myself. And two, because I want them to see me succeed at something I didn’t know how to do twenty minutes ago.

So the next time you feel like you will never figure it out. Just remember – I believe in you. I know you can do it, and I can’t wait to hear how you did it!
