Taking Charge of Your Birth

2

I have had the honor of attending over one hundred and twenty five births in the last six years. Every time, it is as though I am witnessing a miracle before my very eyes. As I watched a baby girl enter this world last Monday, I was reminded how precious and unique every baby’s birth story is. The ecstasy that consumed this mother’s face as she had a vaginal birth after cesarean, and the overwhelming realization of how strong she was and what she had accomplished, brought her to a place she had deeply believed she would never be.

My initial intentions to assist a woman and family in birth seem selfish. The joy and elation that filled a space as a baby was born was unlike any other emotion I had ever experienced. And that was just as a spectator. Now, after having my own children and being on the other side of the birthing experience, my perspective has changed. My desire has become to educate and empower women and to allow them the option to view and experience birth like they may have never even thought possible.

The media has often portrayed birth as scary, dirty and overwhelmingly painful. I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be. The more you know, the less scary birth becomes and the more beautiful the possibility of truly FEELING every part of your baby’s entry into this place and embracing the birth process becomes.

What I want women to know is that pregnancy is normal, not a disease.

Laboring and feeling your baby’s descent doesn’t have to be scary.

If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any.

The day you have your baby will change your life. It can be the most amazing, empowering day you’ll ever know.

Look for more posts to come about making informed choices and achieving the birth you desire.
