About Verizon’s HopeLine program

hopeline imageVerizon Wireless has supported domestic violence awareness and prevention efforts over the last decade through the company’s award-winning HopeLine® phone recycling program.  Through HopeLine, Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories, in any condition, from any wireless service provider. Phones that can be refurbished are sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way. All proceeds benefit non-profit shelters and organizations, such as Children and Families of Iowa,  that focus on domestic violence awareness and prevention.

Since 2001, the nationwide program has collected more than 10.8 million wireless devices, donated more than $21.4 million in cash grants to domestic violence organizations and donated more than 180,000 phones with airtime and text messaging capabilities to programs that aid victims and survivors.

Anyone can support HopeLine by donating no longer used wireless devices at the Verizon Wireless company-owned stores in Iowa, or by downloading a free shipping label from the Verizon web site.  For more information visit:  www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.

About Children & Families of Iowa

Children & Families of IowaCFI logo is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to restoring hope, building futures and changing lives for children, families and individuals across Iowa. Last year we reached 25,687 individuals with our programs. Our programs make an impact in our communities and a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Our five main program areas include:

  1. Restoring Hope for Victims of Domestic Violence:  We provide hope, healing and help for victims of domestic violence and work to create violence-free homes and communities.
  2. Creating Safe Homes for Children: We help create safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected children and help families in crisis stay together.
  3. Helping Teens Find Brighter Futures:  We offer second chances to teens when their painful pasts have left them nowhere else to turn.
  4. Preparing Children to Succeed: We offer low-income working families affordable childcare options that give children a safe, supportive place to learn and grow.
  5. Helping People Reshape their Lives: We empower individuals and families to make positive changes in their lives through Mental Health Services.

More about Domestic Violence Services:

  • Children & Families of Iowa’s Domestic Violence Services provides safe emergency shelter to victims and their children. Our shelter is the largest in Iowa and the only dedicated domestic violence shelter in Polk County.
  • We operate the Iowa Domestic Violence Hotline. The call is free from anywhere in the U.S. and all calls are confidential. Hotline calls are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week by certified domestic violence advocates who help victims, family members and friends find safe solutions, answer questions and provide resource referrals.
  • Our Domestic Violence Services also include individual counseling, support groups, medical and court advocacy, and resource referrals for victims and their children living in Polk and Warren Counties.
  • Our Domestic Violence Outreach Advocates provide educational presentations and trainings for professionals and groups, designed to teach others to recognize, respond and stand up against domestic violence.
  • Children & Families of Iowa provides affordable apartments for qualified individuals and classes that focus on building independent living skills.
