Life is hard and the last year and a half has been harder than most for many reasons. As moms, we carry a huge mental load. There are constant demands on us from feeding, clothing, and bathing the tiny humans we live with to planning, managing, and coordinating our family’s schedule. It is hard to unplug and relax, but it is so important. We’ve all heard the saying you can’t pour from an empty cup, and it’s true!
I had the opportunity to get away with a girlfriend and spend a few days at Sundara Inn & Spa in Wisconsin Dells and it was amazing. Yes, it took a lot of planning and coordinating for us to be gone from our combined 6 kids in the middle of the week, but it was so worth it!
6 Reasons Sundara Inn & Spa is a great place for a girl’s getaway
Spa Treatments
You can’t go wrong with a massage or pedicure on a girl’s getaway, and the treatments at Sundara are truly indulgent. Body wraps, facials, bath treatments, and more are sure to leave you rejuvenated. We also did the Salt Room Therapy to improve respiratory function and rejuvenate our skin. It is blissfully relaxing.
Amenities
As a guest at Sundara, you have access to all resort amenities including the indoor bathhouse with Purifying Bath Ritual, indoor and outdoor pools, Meditation Trail, fitness studio, and more. You receive a robe when you get to your room, and you may end up wearing it your entire stay (you won’t be the only one)!
The Purifying Bath Ritual is amazing. It is a self-guided treatment that starts with exfoliation and a rain shower, then hydration and steam room, followed by a soak in an essential oil-infused hot pool then a cool plunge pool. It is equal parts invigorating and relaxing.
The pool areas are so calm and relaxing, not like a public pool where kids are splashing and yelling. Cell phone use is limited, which gives you the perfect excuse to unplug. It really is a slice of paradise.
Relaxing Rooms
There are a variety of suites to accommodate your group, featuring king-size feather beds, spa showers, jetted tubs, fireplaces, and woodland, hillside, or pool views. Our room had a screened-in balcony overlooking the infinity pool. I loved starting my day here sitting in the morning sun with a cup of coffee.
Delicious Food
You won’t need to worry about cooking on your getaway. Nava, the onsite restaurant, is Sanskrit for “fresh”, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can dine in the restaurant, order by the pool, or get room service. The food and cocktails are fresh and the service is top-notch.
Classes
Don’t worry, these aren’t stressful, but if you’re interested in learning a new cooking technique or taking home some healthy recipes, be sure to check out their cooking demonstrations. Classes are taught by Sundara’s chefs and you get to sample what is made. We also took a yoga class, which is a great way to start a day of relaxation.
Location
Wisconsin Dells is 5 hours from Des Moines. It’s an easy, scenic drive, especially when you are with friends! Towering pines surround the grounds of Sundara to create an idyllic setting. We loved exploring the 2-mile hiking trail and hammock retreat. There are also multiple quiet spaces throughout the property where you can rest and reflect. Fire pits, located around the pools and outdoor areas, provide tranquil spots for reflection. Sundara was recently ranked among the Top 10 Resort Hotels in the Midwest by Travel + Leisure magazine.
I highly recommend planning a girl’s getaway to Sundara Inn & Spa.
