Pools and Spraygrounds Open in Des Moines 2020


Several Des Moines pools are opening for a shorter season in Summer 2020. Des Moines spraygrounds opened June 16.

Birdland Swimming Pool and Teachout Family Aquatic Center are offering swimming lessons in July and August. Check the Des Moines Parks & Rec website for updates on lap swimming.

Cascade Falls Aquatic Center in Ankeny will open for open swim, swimming lessons, lap swim, and water walking on Monday, June 29 with restrictions. The aquatic center will be open only to residents of Ankeny and families enrolled in Ankeny public and private schools to help manage capacity issues.

Prairie Ridge Aquatic Center in Ankeny will not open this year.

All splash pools, and wading pools, and other pools in Des Moines are closed for the season due to COVID-19.

For your safety:

  • Maintain social distance of six feet or more
  • Wash your hands before and after playing
  • Play at your own risk. Equipment is not sanitized
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms

Spraygrounds Open for Summer 2020

Open June 16 through September 30, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Spraygrounds are unsupervised and do not have a lifeguard. Spraygrounds are a free (and fun!) way for families to stay cool all summer.

West Des Moines Sprayground

Legion Park Sprayground will open by Thursday, June 25, operating from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily.
