7 Ideas for a Boy Birthday Party

Boy Birthday party ideasI love birthdays! My husband jokes that my birthday is a week-long celebration (it’s true!). Birthdays as a mom are even more glorious than my own. I love putting special touches and surprises throughout their day where my children feel a little extra special. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it doesn’t have to be Pinterest perfect. If you do it out of love, it will be a birthday party to remember!

Last week, Rachel shared a list of where to have a birthday party in Des Moines. Well, now that she’s taken care of the hard part, let’s start scheming some FUN!

Before we get started planning your boy’s birthday party, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Have the party in between meal hours. 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cheaper and shorter!
  • Have an extra adult helper. Your mom, your BFF. Someone who can cut the cake and pick up the mess so your full attention is on the birthday boy and his friends.
  • If the birthday boy is in school, plan for his friends to be dropped off. If your son is younger than Kindergarten specify whether parents stay or drop off.
  • Any theme can do a twist on these classic party games:
    • Guess how much is in the jar
    • Pin the tail on the donkey
    • Obstacle course
    • Craft

Now for the FUN. Here are some Boy Birthday Party Themes perfect for Mama’s Little Man:

A Pirate Party: Yo-ho-ho! I be invitin’ ya to me birthday, Matey!

Perfect for a lad of any age, whether he loves Jake or Jack Sparrow.

Activities:

1. Find a big cardboard box and have the kids turn it into a pirate ship. Provide markers, stickers, streamers, TP rolls, etc., and let the kids be creative. Or if they’re older, find two boxes and make it a competition!

2. Create a treasure map for a birthday Treasure Hunt. Each stop on the hunt can be an activity or task for the pirate pups to complete (10 jumping jacks, pinning the cracker on the parrot, yelling Yo-Ho three times, coloring a pirate flag). The last stop will be a treasure chest filled with GOLD Dablooms… AKA, their party favors.

Snacks:

Fruit swords, Pirate Booty, Cannon Balls (large gum balls), Fish n’ Chips (gold fish crackers and chips)

Favor:

Give each matey a bandana when he arrives. Gold Dablooms: chocolate gold coins, caramel corn, lemon heads, temporary tattoos, bead necklace.
