A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Mom’s Night Out event on February 28th at Bash Events and Catering! With the cold winter weather and all of the snow, this was a much needed night out for many to enjoy with friends.

Mom’s Night Out has continued to grow over the years with more and more moms taking time for themselves and we loved our new location at Bash this year. Des Moines Moms Blog is honored to provide great events for our readers.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, our guests enjoyed a drink on the house, delicious food from Fuzzy’s Tacos, McAlister’s Deli, Taco Hangover and delicious desserts from Nothing Bundt Cakes, Molly’s Cupcakes, cookies from One Sweet Kitchen, and Scratch Cupcakes! Each guest also received an amazing swag bag. We ended the evening with incredible door prize giveaways.

Katie Spellman of Spellman Photography specializes in family and senior photography. She believes children aren’t designed to sit still and works with their busy little bodies to capture fun candid moments, but also sneaks in a few posed, “smile-at-the-camera” pictures for Grandma! And moms? She’s got your back! Family portraits capture little moments in time that you’ll want to remember forever. She loves that her job makes that a reality for so many families.

CamBam Custom Floral is owned by Emily Weaver who is also the lead florist. Emily has always been intrinsically drawn to the natural beauty of flowers whether she was picking her grandmother’s flowers as a child or working at her first floral shop in college where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Language Arts Education. After working in the floral industry for 8 years in both Nebraska and Arizona, Emily decided to open her own business in order to give her clients one of a kind customer service and premium quality floral design. Food Partners

Fuzzy’s provided beef and vegetarian tacos at the event. The original Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is on Berry Street in Fort Worth, Texas. It was there that a glorious vision of taco heaven took hold in 2003: It would have frosty drinks. It would have good vibes. It would be the kind of place that you never want to leave. It would be a huge, craving-inducing success.

Fuzzy’s earned a cult-like following, and that first location turned into more than 100 across the country.

McAlister’s Deli provided their delicious sandwich wrap pinwheels and flavorful Savannah Chopped salad. They first opened in the small southern town of Oxford, Mississippi. A movie production had taken an old service station and retrofitted it into a 1950’s-style diner. After they finished, it sat vacant until a dentist bought the property. They had a vision of turning the abandoned set into a small restaurant. And in 1989—you guessed it—the first McAlister’s opened its doors. Much like today, they offered a unique menu with sandwiches, salads, spuds, and a heaping spoonful of southern hospitality. They quickly became known for their great food, large portions, wide variety, and a welcoming environment… also one heck of a glass of sweet tea.

Dessert Partners

Molly’s Cupcakes provided their delicious mini cupcakes!
Miss Molly: Molly was my third-grade teacher. Whenever one of us had a birthday, she would bake us cupcakes. I still remember how good they were. She had her own special recipe for chocolate and vanilla. Just about everyone who tries them thinks they’re the best cupcakes ever.
Our Mission: In honor of Molly and as a way to help our children, a portion of our profits is donated directly to schools in our community. Every time you eat a cupcake or sip a latte, you help our kids. So eat up!

Nothing Bundt Cakes provided guests with their famous Buntinis! To find the perfect recipe, you first need the perfect ingredients. And that’s what their founders Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz were for each other. In 1997, they joined forces, or better yet kitchens, to help make cakes to entertain their friends and family. The cakes they made were delicious, unlike anything anyone had tasted.

Guests enjoyed a variety of cupcakes from Scratch Cupcakery which originally opened in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in June 2010.

Scratch isn’t a franchise. They’re locally grown and they partner with other locally grown businesses. They employ more than 150 people aged 17-70+. They train our staff from the ground up. They aren’t perfect, but they love the adventure.

Scratch was born from a love of making people smile. They experiment in the kitchen constantly. In all of that testing and baking, they learn about their customers. They learn your likes and dislikes. They learn about your lives and families and events. You’ve brought them into your life and allowed them to share in some of your most favorite moments. They love making you smile… Follow them on Facebook

The adorable sugar cookies were made by One Sweet Kitchen who bakes the best-tasting cookies and pies in Central Iowa.

From custom wedding favors to corporate gifts, their cookies and pies always leave a lasting impression that leaves everyone wanting more. All of their treats are homemade right here in Des Moines. Check them out on Facebook!
