Des Moines Moms Blog regularly highlights local nonprofits. There are so many amazing organizations in our city dedicated to looking out for the well being of all who live here. We want to feature them and share ways you and your family can partner with them through volunteering, giving donations, and attending amazing fundraising events. If you know of a nonprofit we should feature, please email [email protected].

They have nearly 14,000 members across 2/3 of the state of Iowa (and parts of Nebraska and South Dakota) and they have adventures for them including programs and events, summer camp, and their the well-known Girl Scout Cookie Program.
Mission Statement
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
How to Get Involved
A Troop Leader is the cheerleader, guide, and mentor, helping Girl Scouts develop essential life skills and confidence that will last a lifetime. The greatest need is always troop leaders – so many girls want to be Girl Scouts and finding qualified leaders can be difficult in some communities. Learn about how you can become involved!
There are some specific events and one-off volunteer opportunities. These include staffing a registration table to painting cabins at camp. Please email for more information.
Donations are always welcome and used for the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. To learn more about how your contribution will help, click here.
