Des Moines Mom regularly highlights local nonprofits. There are so many amazing organizations in our community dedicated to looking out for the well being of all who live here. We want to feature them and share ways you and your family can partner with them through volunteering, giving donations, and attending amazing (now, virtual) fundraising events. If you know of a nonprofit we should feature, please email [email protected].

childserveEasterseals Iowa serves Iowans with disabilities to live, learn, work, and play in their community. They support children and adults in all 99 counties through 15 different programs.

Get Involved with Easterseals Iowa

During COVID-19 they are still accepting volunteers to help with outdoor activities like pulling weeds, raking leaves, planting flowers etc. Once it’s determined volunteers can safely be inside, client engagement volunteer activities will reopen.

Ways to Give

COVID-19 has had extreme effects on Easterseals Iowa as it did with many non-profits, and operational support is always needed, you can donate today to help!

Donations of used medical equipment are in high demand as the program was suspended for a few months due to the pandemic. A new sanitation system has been implemented and contact-less drop off of donated items helps keep everyone safe and healthy. Please call 515-309-2395 to schedule an appointment if you have medical equipment to donate.

Easterseals is extremely grateful for Hubbell’s support and belief in our mission. The commitment of their team members and partners has allowed us to increase our ability to serve our clients and families. Easterseals has been providing integrated childcare services to our community for over 15 years. This gift will allow us to increase our enrollment, doubling the number of children and families we can provide high quality, integrated care, filling a desperate need in central Iowa.”

2021 Hubbell Extreme Build

The build will take place on the Easterseals Des Moines’ campus located off of 66th Avenue in Des Moines. Together, with many trade partners and with lead local architecture firm SVPA, Hubbell will build a 12,300 square foot early education center for children 18 and under. The space will have designated areas for infants, toddlers, two and three-year-olds, Pre-K rooms, a room focused on improving motor skills as well as a space for teachers and staff. The facility will cost roughly $2.5 million and, in true Hubbell Extreme Build fashion, will take roughly one week to build. Hubbell and its trade partners will contribute approximately half of the project cost as an in-kind donation toward the project.

“The Extreme Build is something we look forward to every four years. Hubbell is a longtime supporter of the initiative and meaningful work done at Easterseals and we came to the consensus very quickly that this is who we wanted to support again in 2021. Our 2013 Extreme Build was called ‘Cabins for Campers’. We built two-7,500 square foot Easterseals lodges in just one week for all aged campers to use. We’re looking forward to kicking off the Extreme Build a little early with fundraising starting in August at our Hubbell Extreme Golf event!”

– Hubbell President and CEO Rick Tollakson
