I’ve always loved to craft, but my attention span can’t handle things that take more than a nap time or require a ton of supplies and mess. I do, however, really enjoy crafting in short spurts, and I want my kids to find enjoyment in creating things, too.
I don’t make it to the craft supply store often, and I can’t easily run there after work. Surprisingly, the dollar store has a lot of great craft supplies. Lucky for me, we have one very close to our house.
Every year I love to add ornaments to the tree the kids make.
This is an easy DIY ornament that doesn’t make a huge mess, can be done in a short sitting, and doesn’t require a ton of supplies.
I have three sons, ages 2, 4, and 7, and they were all able to make these snowman ornaments.
Snowman Ornament Supplies:
glitter drape (basically fuzzy white stuff; you could also use cotton balls)
clear Christmas ornaments (I would suggest getting plastic ones)
a shoe lace or string
orange and black permanent markers
old socks
tape or glue
First off, you’ll want to shred up the glitter drape into small pieces so it can be stuffed into the ornament. This was an easy task even for the two year old to do.
The other two steps can be done in whichever order you find easier.
Have your kiddo draw on the face of the snowman with permanent marker.
Cut the sock toe off, and put it on the ornament like a hat, using the string to tie the top.
You will want to either glue or use double-sided tape to keep the hat from shifting around.
Then, you’re done! Easy as that. Attach ornament hangers and they’re ready for the tree. Can you tell which kiddo made which ornament?
Each ornament was only $1.33 to make. The ornament itself was $1, and I was able to split the $1 package of glitter drape between all three plus have extra. The permanent markers, socks, and shoe lace where things we already had around the house.
These snowman ornaments would be make great gifts for grandparents, and provide some simple fun crafting time on a cold day!
Oh those are cute! This is something that even our 5 year old would be interested in completing! Crafts are harder these days as he is ALWAYS on the go!
