A Journal To Grandparents

grandparents and girl reading. Des Moines MomGrandparents are priceless. They have a unique relationship with your kids, one to cherish. Recently I decided to start a journal from my son to my parents. I wanted them to have something they could look back on to remind them how special they are in his life.

Since this is a new project there are not a lot of entries yet. But I’m hoping to fill it up with lots of stories and memories they have together. Read below to see how the journal is starting out.

Today is the day! You are becoming a grandparent and crossing the bridge. My entrance into this world was memorable. You were in Oklahoma when my mom’s water broke. And came rushing back to Iowa to meet me and support my mom and dad.

Your introduction to grandparenting included my short stay in the NICU. I hope I didn’t worry you too much. I just wanted some extra attention from all the doctors and nurses. Also thank you for helping my parents by picking up my car seat and installing the base. Clearly my mom thought she had plenty of time to pack for the hospital and prep.

As I have grown up, your patience and love have guided me. The support you have given my mom has been tremendous. I have RSV and am in the hospital this week. You came to stay with me so my mom can get some sleep while my dad is taking care of my sisters. Thank you for helping during this scary time.

I got to touch the ocean for the first time. I loved the sand and ate so much of it. You were there to see the excitement on my face when the water hit my toes. That squeal of delight and intrigue.

You raced to the hospital to meet my mom and I this morning because my world is about to change completely. And the hospital wouldn’t let me stay to see my baby sister be born. You helped me so much today, keeping me entertained and occupied.

I have gotten to spend a lot of time with you this week because my baby sister is in the hospital with RSV. I miss my mommy and don’t understand what is happening. But you came and took me back to my house today. Daddy is coming back soon to stay with me and my older sisters.

I love coming to your house and playing with your toys. Whether I am playing in the basement with the Playmobil or building ramps for my monster trucks. Making sand castles on your deck or playing my version of crochet in the backyard. Riding bikes up to the lake and having a picnic with Evie.

We have so many fun memories and times I have learned new skills with you. When I make “red choices” you show me how to make “green choices.” Thank you for the guidance and direction, with love.

Our family won the lottery for grandparents. You make the lives of us parents easier. By showing us the ropes and then spoiling our kids. My son would not have 15 monster trucks without the help of his grandparents.

By taking time to appreciate those close to us, we give our children the basis for positive relationships with their grandparents. What are some traditions your kids have with their grandparents? Share those below so we can all appreciate grandparents together.
