A Blast From the Past: My Sister’s Favorite Childhood Movies

1

We spent the weekend at my parents’ and sister’s home in Northwest Iowa. My sister is quite the movie fanatic. She loves classics, westerns, science fiction, romantic comedy, action, drama…. You name it, she has at least heard of it, if not seen it.

Aunt Sares (as my girls have named her) finds joy in seeing her nieces and nephews delight in the things she loves. While we were there, she dug out some of her favorite movies from her childhood!

These are just a few of the epic movies that entertained my sister throughout her childhood. We had a fun movie marathon all weekend as Cadee sat and enjoyed The Princess Bride, The NeverEnding Story and The Goonies. It’s fun to see how alike my sister and my oldest daughter are. They could sit and watch movies all day and just veg. Whereas, Liliana is exactly like her mother. She will sit and enjoy bits and pieces of a movie. But she is a busy body! She has stuff to do and she gets too comfy cozy during a movie. My mom told me I was the exact same way. Is it their birth order? Or DNA? Who knows! The movies I remember sitting and enjoying were Disney princess movies like Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin. I’m anxious to see what kind of little man Drake turns out to be.

If you ever have the time to enjoy any of these movies, I would recommend them for ages 8 and up. Some other of Aunt Sares’ favorites include: Gremlins, The Labyrinth, Pete’s Dragon, and Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken, just to name a few.

While Cadee could enjoy these movies over and over again, Liliana and I will stick to some of our favorites right now such as Wreck-It Ralph, Marley & Me, Rise of the Guardians and her current all time favorite (that changes weekly): Cinderella.

What are some of your favorite movies from your childhood? And what are you children’s current favorites?
