7 Simple Home Refresh Ideas

bedroom with black walls. Home Refresh Ideas. Des Moines MomSpring is a fresh start, new growth, and for lots of us- a little spring cleaning! For me, I like to do a little home refresh to give it a little lift after the winter. I’ve found some really simple ways to change things up without a lot of cost or actual work.

7 Things to Do for a Home Refresh

1. Paint

A fresh coat of paint does wonders to a room. A few coats and you have yourself an entirely different look. It truly is magical. Paint is a fairly easy and affordable way to change the look of your home. Have fun with it, paint can be changed!

2. Shop your home

Sounds kind of strange but go around your house and move things around. Move that mirror to a different spot or move a vase into a different room. Small, simple changes  make a difference and refresh a space you felt was tired and old. Another tip- I have a designated spot for or unused decor items that I don’t want to sell/donate just yet in our storage area. I’ll peruse that shelf to find items I put away and switch things out! It’s a fun way to rotate and change things up.

3. Check out Facebook marketplace/thrift

You can find all sorts of treasures on Facebook Marketplace or other thrift stores in the Des Moines area. You can also sell your own stuff too and make a few extra dollars!

4. Rearrange Furniture

Rearranging furniture also can bring new life to a room. It’s a fun way to change things up. Like moving items to a new room, you can even move furniture pieces to a different room for a new look.

5. Accessorize

Throw pillows, shelf decor, a throw blanket, a rug, etc. are all great ways to bring new elements into the room. These can easily be found on Facebook marketplace or thrift stores or other stores for a reasonable price.

6. Add greenery

Admittedly, I am a black thumb through and through. But I will never quit striving to become a plant lady. Adding plants to your rooms adds color and variety to your decor and a fresh, new look to your space.

7. Create a statement wall

This one takes a little bit more DIY power than just throwing a blanket or pillows on the couch, but I wanted to add this one because it can make a big impact while still being reasonable on the budget and the labor needed to get it done.

Creating a statement wall is an effective way to change the feel of a space. It can be reasonably affordable depending on the look you’re going for. From using wood to wallpaper- (there are some really appealing wallpaper choices out there now), you can create a statement wall in a weekend!

We recently completed a statement wall in our primary bedroom. My husband already had all the tools needed to complete the project so in total we spent $130 for the wood and paint needed for a complete change in our room.
