New in Des Moines 2019It’s no secret that we love Des Moines. We like to say it’s a “small” big city. It has plenty of amenities found in bigger cities without crazy traffic and high prices.

There are so many restaurants and businesses that have recently opened and are coming to Des Moines in 2019. Here are some of our favorite new places!

6 New Restaurants and Businesses in Des Moines

BAH Brazilian Steakhouse:

BAH Brazilian Steakhouse is a new authentic Southern Brazilian style restaurant located at 2301 Ingersoll Avenue, Suite 500, in Des Moines. They use an open fire grill to cook all their meats and call this “Churrasco” or Brazilian barbecue. They give you red and green symbols to use during your meal. The red side of your symbol means to stop the meat service (served on skewers!) and the green side means you would like more. You do this as many times as you’d like. Reservations are not necessary but are suggested.

Teddy Maroon’s

If BAH isn’t your thing, you can hop right next door to Teddy Maroon’s. Teddy Maroon’s is a bar and grill that serves American food and craft beers. The name actually comes from Roosevelt and Dowling high schools because the neighborhood has many families from both schools incorporated and a fun-loving rivalry. They are open seven days a week. Make your reservations at 515-212-4900.

Smash Park

Smash Park is an activity-based restaurant and bar near Jordan Creek in West Des Moines. Not only do they have food and drinks, they also have eight Pickleball courts, stand-up shuffleboard, ping-pong tables, bocce ball, Foosball, bags, Jenga, and a life-sized Connect Four game. It’s 47,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space! All games are free to play except Pickleball, and you can reserve courts. Hours differ for open play times so be sure to check out their website, or call them at 515-313-0700.

Wahlburger’s

Anyone a Mark Wahlberg fan? You’ve probably heard of the recently opened burger joint, Wahlburgers. Located in the Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines is the restaurant named after Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg. They also have a TV show based on the family opening multiple restaurants around the United States. They have an extensive food and drink menu that includes vegetarian and gluten-free options. It is located at 7105 Mills Civic Pkwy #160 in West Des Moines and open seven days a week.

B&B Theaters

B&B Theaters in Ankeny is the newest theater in the metro. It features 12 movie screens, (with reclining leather seats!) an arcade, bowling alley, and a full-service bar. Two of the theaters have wall-to-wall screens which are some of the largest in the country. One auditorium uses special effects like rumbling seats and even certain smells and scents to make the movie even more realistic.

There is also a play area where you can bring your kids to play for up to 30 minutes before the movie begins! There is also a bar and grill that serves a variety of food and drinks. Ticket prices vary based on what specific theater you’re in.

Papa Keno’s

Huge slices of pizza? Sign me up! Papa Keno’s is located in the Drake area at 2330 University Ave and literally have the biggest slices of pizza around! Their specialty is pizza, but they also have sandwiches and salads as well as sides and desserts. They’re open seven days a week.
