Here are five ideas for how you can spend time as a family over spring break, or just to get outside and shake off the winter funk.
Fun Things to do for Spring Break in Des Moines
1. Check out an “Adventure Pass” from the library
This is a local Mom favorite! Use your Des Moines Library card to check out an Iowa Adventure Pass to visit Blank Park Zoo, Brenton Skating Plaza, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, and the Science Center of Iowa. Each pass allows entrance for two adults and two children.
2. Go Geocaching
Geocaching is like real-life treasure hunting! Download the app and you will see there are caches hidden all over the world. The Geocaching app uses GPS and a short description to guide you to the cache. Don’t forget a pencil so you can mark your name in the log when you find it!
Pro tip: Look for a larger cache and there may be small gifts! If you are experienced at geocaching, consider placing one with your kids – that’s what we plan to do! Read more here.
3. Explore new restaurants
I can’t keep up with all of the new restaurants popping up across the metro. My husband and I keep a growing list and try to visit them on day dates over our lunch breaks. Explore our list of what is new in Des Moines and make a plan for yourself!
4. See a movie
Last year, we rented a movie theater to see the new Wonder Woman movie. My daughter and her friends loved it, especially because we love going to the movies. I plan on exploring The Palms Theatre in Waukee this year.
5. Go to Charlotte’s Web at the Des Moines Playhouse
We have tickets to see a play based on the book we just finished reading. Charlotte’s Web is playing through most of March, so you can find something to fit your spring break schedule!
