My memories of Easter as a child include a poofy pink Easter dress, Kinder chocolate eggs (you know, the ones with the little surprise toy inside), early church services, a 12-foot table with all sorts of mouth-watering platters, and, of course, a big noisy crowd amassed for dinner.

At my parents home in Egypt, our Easter dinners were more like large banquets. Think something out of the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding! 🙂 And the food was pretty much all Mediterranean: lamb, lemon-garlic potatoes, eggplant parmigiana and similar casseroles, and  homemade desserts like Baklava.

Umpteen years and a few moves later, here I am, a grown woman living in Des Moines, Iowa; and I get to make my own Easter dinner! I lost—missed, rather—the big crowd around the banquet table, but I kept some of my family’s traditions and recipes.
